SS Great Britain – Executive Car Hire, Taxi and Chauffeur Service

Launched in 1843, the SS Great Britain was the largest ship afloat. This former passenger steamship was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Intended for the transatlantic route, between Bristol and New York. She was operated by the Great Western Steamship Company.

The SS Great Britain was the first to combine the use of an Iron Hull and a screw propeller in such a large vessel.

She was the first iron steamer to make the journey from Bristol to New York in 1845, the journey took 14 days.

Great Britain carried thousands of immigrants to Australia until converted to a sailing ship in 1881. Great Britain was eventually taken to the Falkland Islands where she was used as a quarantine ship and warehouse until scuttled in1937

Following an incredible recovery operation she was returned to Bristol in 1970 to the same dry dock in which she was constructed. She has since been fully restored and is very worthwhile a visit.

You can even get married on the ship now!
